Yoga Drawings

In this drawings, I want to express the perfect and conscious control of the body with simultaneous correct perception to the outside – this is the expression – the art of a fighter. Fighting in this sense is the opposite of violence, it is the image of a self-confident and mentally strong personality.

These original Drawings of Martial artists are done from movie scenes from Ip Man or movies like Fearless Heros – Huo Yuan Jia and The unity of heros and The Master of Tai Chi. They display the actors Donnie Yen and Vincent Zhao (also known als Wenzhuo Zhao). All drawings are done with pencil on white paper. (Din 4 (21cm x 29,7cm) and Din 3 (29,7 cm x 42cm). I want to express the movement and forces of these fighting poses. My interest was to portrait the individual expression and gaze of these two fighters.

The fighter and artist

Every physical exercise thus becomes a mastery. In yoga I see this realized in parallel in the personalities Heinz Grill and BKS Iyengar. Not pure flexibility or extreme forms but the perfect leadership over the body with full clarity is also possible in yoga as in martial arts. I would like to make this expression visible with my drawings. The drawings are in this sense portraits of forms of conscious mental clarity, which should convey the power of the human being over the body and not physical power.
